ALL VINYL BATTLE
TRIPLE THREAT DJS
Apollo & Vinroc
vs.
OAKLAND FADERS
Platurn & Joe Quixx
Before becoming a trio, the Triple Threat DJs, comprising of legendary DJs Shortkut, Apollo and Vinroc, all but conquered their genre. They were introduced to the art form as youngsters through mobile DJing and evolved into world-renowned turntablists. Triple Threat represents the future of turntablism, precisely because they’ve been so instrumental to its storied past. Though they have championship-level skills at scratching and beat-juggling they also know how to rock a party, produce music and create original compositions with two turntables. They are not just djs, turntablists, producers, musicians or club djs, they encompass all aspects.
The crew has been around for a decade and has grown to be 8 members deep. Every single member–DJ Platurn, DJ Spair, DJ Mere, Joe Quixx, Ammbush, DJ Enki, DJ Zeph, and DJ Icewater– is at least 15 years deep in the DJ game, and each one showcases the diverse skills and musical knowledge that have become the Faders’ calling card. From glitzy clubs to grimy underground spots, radio shows to b-boy throwdowns, funk 45 nights and electro parties, the Faders cover all the bases.

Believe it or not…this is a remix!
Of course, when you’re starting off with a song that’s already great, as “Ghost Town” is, then you really don’t have to do much to it. I just figured this tune could use a little touching up to make it work better in clubs, so a slightly fatter bassline, some extra drums, and it is good to go. And for some extra fun, I did a little chopping to pull out a riff and make some Bonus Beats, because Bonus Beats need to make a comeback, dammit! If you want to bump this tune in your next set, you can cop it at Turntable Lab:

In December of 2010 Burn Energy Drink (A Coca-Cola Brand) put out a call for treatment submissions for a series of web films they were commissioning. Having recently worked with the young producer/MPC (Music Production Center) savant Araabmuzik, Director Alec Sutherland was inspired to create an installation that could be a real time, visual articulation of Araab’s actions on the MPC. The treatment for this idea was submitted and selected by Burn. The shoot lasted two-days: the first spent documenting Araab in everyday situations accompanied by audio excerpts from a candid interview. The second was spent at Broadway Stages in Greenpoint Brooklyn, building the light setup and finally, recording Araab’s performance. This film has been completed for months but we were unable to release it do to Burn’s brand repositioning. Recently, they gave us a choice: release the film now on your own, or wait until August when Burn/Coca-Cola will put their corporate weight behind it. We have decided to release it now because we would like people to see it as something other than an advertisement. Thank you and we hope you enjoy. – FreeOnSmash
